Interesting piece on the "West Hartford News"

The Bristol Today blog has an interesting piece about the West Hartford News that went live just a short time ago. In it, everything that frustrates me about the News is brought to a head, from the short articles to the large ad content to the constant string of press releases printed weekly. The fact is that a local paper focusing on a town of this size, with its numerous events, shouldn't be filled with more ads than actual stories. As a reader, it's frustrating. And, for the amount that I love the police log, it really doesn't count as news, does it?

Anyway, like I said, it's a good read for those interested in our local free weekly.

This is a dead on read, I think (except for the constant "rich town" crud).

Why so many West Hartford Blogs? As far back as I can trace it, WH Dad found a niche. He put up his blog and found that people really wanted a virtual gathering place to talk about what was happening in their town. As his blog faded, others have sprung up in its stead, most of which could be rendered irrelevant by a strong West Hartford News with a strong web presence.

For now, though, we'll have to remain content to talk about the Hall's Market insert ...

Sadly, after the Police Log, the Hall's page on the back is pretty much my second-most looked at section of the News .
